CLOSING GALA OF THE XV INTERNATIONAL NNW FILM FESTIVAL

For the second time, the Jan Karski Institute of War Losses joined the NNW (Niezłomni, Niepokorni, Wyklęci) International Film Festival. The Institute, as an institutional partner of this event, funded the main prize - the Golden Resistor - in the Polish Documentary Competition. The award went to Michał Torz, scriptwriter and director of the film "Stanisław Helski. Dlatego!".

In the award-winning production, the filmmaker introduced the person of the title character who was, among other things, a member of the independence conspiracy in the structures of the Peasant Battalions, a prisoner of the German concentration camp at Majdanek, and an oppositionist in the period of the Polish People's Republic. The public had the opportunity to hear about him only in the context of his attack on General Wojciech Jaruzelski, which took place on 11 October 1994.

At the time, however, no one took the trouble to point out the motivations that pushed Helski to this desperate act. Years after the event, Michal Torz (an experienced journalist) undertook this effort, thoroughly introducing this extraordinary figure.

The award was presented during the Festival's Closing Gala (i.e. on 30 September this year) by the Director of the Jan Karski Institute of War Losses, Prof. Konrad Wnęk.
