JAN KARSKI INSTITUTE OF WAR LOSSES AT "PRZYSTANKU NIEPODLEGŁOŚĆ"

The eighth edition of Przystanku Niepodległość ("the Independence Stop"), a patriotic and cultural initiative, took place in Polanica-Zdrój on 15th-17th September.

This year's edition of this event was particularly special as, besides panels with historians (including Tadeusz Płużański and Prof. Jan Żaryn), artists (Wojciech Korkuć) and journalists (Cezary Krysztopa and Jakub Maciejewski), there was also a presentation by representatives of the Jan Karski Institute for War Losses.

On Saturday, 16th September, the Director of the Institute, Prof. Konrad Wnęk, presented the issue of war losses suffered by Poland as a result of the German invasion and occupation of the country in 1939-1945.

The member of the Institute's Council, Dr. Paweł Pońsko, characterised, among others, the direction of economic development of the inter-war Republic of Poland and the projected growth lost as a result of World War II.

In turn, Dr. Damian Markowski (a representative of the Institute's Research Division) focused on research perspectives regarding the damage incurred by the Polish side as a consequence of Soviet aggression.

The discussion was moderated by editor Jacek Karnowski.

In addition to the speeches of the aforementioned speakers, the abridged version of the "The Report on the Losses Sustained by Poland as a Result of German Aggression and Occupation during the Second World War, 1939-1945", available at the event venue, attracted a great interest. The copies of this publication delivered to the event sold out rapidly.
