One of the tasks of the Jan Karski Institute of War Losses is to initiate academic events focused on research into the losses suffered by Poland during World War II.

The international academic conference scheduled in Pruszków on 19-20 September entitled "Before 17 September 1939. The Republic of Poland's Property in the Area Annexed by the USSR" is another of the Institute's initiatives aimed at determining the losses and destructions in the Eastern Territories.

The Report on the Losses Sustained by Poland as a Result of German Aggression and Occupation during the Second World War, 1939-1945 published on 1 September 2022 provides an exposition of the criminal actions conducted by the Third German Reich. The preparation of a similar summary in the context of the Soviet invasion and occupation requires further research and extensive elaboration.

During the conference scheduled for two days and consisting of five seminar sections, there will be an opportunity to listen to 19 lectures describing, among other topics, the state of primary schooling in the Eastern Territories of the Second Polish Republic on the eve of World War II (Dr. Mirosław Czado), the lost Polish national heritage (Dr. Paweł Naleźniak) and the industrial potential of Eastern Galicia in the interwar period, which will be presented by Prof. Mykola Lytvyn from Lviv.

The initiator and moderator of the conference is Dr. Piotr Olechowski - Head of the War Losses Research Department.
