STUDY VISIT TO THE TREBLINKA MUSEUM

On August 25, this year. The First Deputy Director of the Institute of War Losses, Dr. Agnieszka Kasperek, and the Chief Specialist of the Communication, Education and Publishing Division, Dr. Paweł Matwiejczuk, made a study visit at the Treblinka Museum.

The visitors were welcomed by the Director of the Museum, Dr. Edward Kopówka, who personally showed the permanent exhibition, presented the museum's expansion plans and talked about the acquisition of archaeological collections and the challenges of managing the memorial site of two camps: the penal labour camp Treblinka I and the extermination camp Treblinka II, which together cover an area of 170 hectares.

The second part of the visit took place in the open air. Paweł Maliszewski was a guide around the area of the former extermination camp, where approx. 900,000 Jews perished and the penal labour camp, in the gravel pit, as well as the place of execution for the prisoners of the Treblinka I camp: Poles, Jews, Romani and Sinti.

The last stop of the visit was the Korczak Forest. It is an initiative related to the commemoration of the famous Warsaw doctor and guardian of orphans Janusz Korczak. In the area outside the former camp, there are several dozen deciduous trees planted, which are looked after by the institutions distinguished by the museum.
