STUDY VISIT TO THE STATE MUSEUM AT MAJDANEK
On 30 June, the First Deputy Director of the Institute of War Losses, Dr Agnieszka Kasperek, and the Chief Specialist of the Communication, Education and Publishing Division, Dr Paweł Matwiejczuk, paid a study visit to the State Museum at Majdanek. The first part of the visit was a meeting with the management of the State Museum at Majdanek. Dr Tomasz Kranz and Mr Wiesław Wyskok talked about the history of the former camp, the research, exhibition and investment projects carried out there and the upcoming anniversaries, i.e. the 80th anniversary of the uprising in Sobibór (14 October 2023) and the 80th anniversary of the liquidation of the Majdanek camp (22 July 2024).
Afterwards, the collections of the local Archives were presented, and Mr Krzysztof Tarkowski talked about their history and presented the most interesting photographs documenting the history of the camp.
A walk around the grounds of the camp followed the presentation, guided by the Deputy Director, Mr Wiesław Wyskok. This was an opportunity to see the museum exhibitions, discuss education, and learn about the tasks and challenges involved in preserving the site which extends over an area of 90 hectares.
